Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu – ‘s largest fortress and one of its most important religious monuments. It is a stunning building with immense walls, white-washed towers and elegant courtyards filled with prayer flags.

Tashichho Dzong’s best time to visit is during the annual festival in December or January. During this time you can witness colorful traditional dances, music performances and other festivities that happen right in front of the impressive dzong. The views from up high are also spectacular as there are mountains on all sides of this gorgeous structure.

Motithang Takin Preserve in Thimphu – is a hidden gem in the Himalayan region, and Motithang Takin Preserve is one of its most prominent attractions. Located at an altitude of over 3,000 meters above sea level, this government-protected wildlife sanctuary provides visitors with an opportunity to observe takins—Bhutan’s national animal—up close. The preserve also houses other animals such as barking deer, red pandas, sambar deer and wild boars among others.

National Memorial Chorten in Thimphu – ‘s National Memorial Chorten is a white-washed structure with golden spires that stands as one of the most sacred monuments in the nation. It was built in 1974 to honor the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. The monument’s four floors are filled with intricate murals depicting Buddhist themes and statues of protective deities.
