The Heroes’ Square is a must-see for anyone visiting Budapest. It was built in 1896 to commemorate Hungary’s 1,000th anniversary and features statues of important figures from Hungarian history including kings, princes and generals. The centerpiece of the square is a 36-meter tall column topped with a bronze statue of Archangel Gabriel holding Hungary’s crown.
