Cameroon, a country located in Central Africa, is known for its delicious food. As I explored the streets of Cameroon’s capital city Yaoundé, I was amazed by the variety and flavor of the different meals available.

My first experience with local food was koki – a type of fufu made from cassava flour and water. It had a slightly sweet taste and it went really well with a soup made up of tomatoes, onions, smoked fish, okra and peppers that gave off an incredible aroma. The combination definitely lived up to my expectations!

One of my favorites is eru, a sauce made with ground nuts, hot pepper, and other spices. It’s cooked up with vegetables to make a delicious stew – it’s got an amazing flavor that you won’t find anywhere else! Another popular dish is ndole – it’s made with bitter leaves and shrimp or fish – very tasty! The key ingredient in most Cameroonian dishes is palm oil which adds lots of color as well as great flavor.

3. Is the food spicy, mild, or something else entirely? – The food here has a unique flavor that I can’t quite put my finger on. It definitely packs some heat, but it isn’t so spicy that it overwhelms the other flavors. There’s something special to each dish – a little bit of sweetness mixed with savory spices and herbs – that makes it really enjoyable to eat!
